🌞 Our Daily Rhythm at Curious Jīvas

At Curious Jīvas, we follow a gentle, consistent rhythm that supports each child’s growth in body, mind, and spirit—while allowing for flexibility, curiosity, and joy in learning.

🕊️ Morning Arrival
Drop-off is intentionally flexible.
We believe a peaceful start to the day is far more valuable than rushing to be on time. Please do your best to arrive near the beginning of the morning so your child can fully participate and benefit from the day’s offerings.

🏫 Free Choice Work Period
This is the heart of our morning. During this time, each child chooses work based on their interests and developmental stage, moving freely around the classroom and working independently, in pairs, or in small groups.

The classroom environment is carefully prepared with hands-on materials that cover a wide range of subjects, including math, language, science, geography, and practical life skills. These materials are arranged on open shelves and presented in a way that invites exploration. Once a child has received a lesson on how to use a material, they are free to return to it as often as they like.

The guide (teacher) observes and supports, offering individual or small-group lessons as needed, while ensuring children are challenged and progressing at their own pace. The uninterrupted nature of the work period allows children to develop deep concentration, independence, and a sense of ownership over their learning.

🍎 Snack Time
Our snack space will be available during the morning work period. Snack time is designed to support independence, self-regulation, and practical life skills. Children are free to prepare and eat their snack when they feel hungry, rather than at a set time. This encourages children to listen to their bodies and make respectful, responsible choices.

Children participate in setting up, serving, and cleaning up their own snack using real tools and materials. They learn important life skills such as pouring, slicing, cleaning, and table manners. This process also nurtures social development, as children may choose to eat with a friend or two and practice grace and courtesy through quiet conversation and collaboration.

🌿 Group Circle
To conclude our morning work time we come together as a group for a circle gathering, which may include:

  • A group lesson

  • Storytelling or read-alouds

  • Singing

  • Gentle movement or yoga

  • Nature walks and observation

  • Reflection, prayer, or breathwork

  • Sharing our thoughts

This shared moment invites connection, reverence, and rhythm.

🧸 Outdoor Play or Indoor Movement
Physical play is an essential part of our day.
Weather permitting, we play outside with time for free play, gardening, exploring nature and group games. When weather isn’t ideal, we offer movement, dance, or creative indoor play.

🥗 Lunch Together
We close our day with a shared lunch—whether packed from home or chosen from our optional vegetarian offering.
This is a social, grounding time that models gratitude, community, and presence.

🤝 Unity Between Home & Program
Curious Jīvas is a supportive extension of your homeschool rhythm.
We believe in open communication between guide and parent. We invite regular updates about what your child is learning and loving at home, and we will keep you informed of their growth and interests in our shared space.
Together, we create a cohesive, heart-aligned path for your child to grow, learn, and thrive.

About Kalindi

Kalindi is a Montessori-trained teacher with over 20 years of experience working with children—as a nanny, classroom teacher and mother of 4. She has taught in Montessori school settings for a total of eight years and has homeschooled her own children for the past four years.

Kalindi was originally drawn to Montessori by the beauty of the materials and the way they make academic concepts accessible and engaging. But what truly captivated her was the philosophy behind it—the invitation to follow the child. This approach honors each child as a unique individual, encouraging self-direction, intrinsic motivation, and deep respect for their inner guidance.
